Brian Brett was born in Vancouver and has spent most of his life on the West Coast. He now farms and writes on Salt Spring Island. He is a prolific writer and has worked in most genres; journalism, memoir, essays, fiction and, of course, poetry. He has worked for many writers’ organizations including P.E.N. International, The League of Canadian Poets and The Writer’s Union of Canada of which he was appointed chair in 2005.


Brian inaugurated the B.C. Poetry In The Schools program. He has taught and given workshops across Canada. His latest book Trauma Farm has been a Canadian best seller and won this year’s Writer’s Trust of Canada prize for non-fiction. Perhaps his best loved book of poetry is Uproar’s Your Only Music.
