Torn Between

Captivating fiction emerges when fully realized characters are caught between seemingly irreconcilable allegiances. Here we have four authors who’ve created characters being pulled in different directions - an English lad in Ireland, a young woman in Vancouver’s Sikh community, working class women, and intertwining Sri Lankan and Scottish immigrant families.

Saturday, July 16, 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm

Moderator Bill Richardson with authors Daphne Bramham, Andrew Nikiforuk, and John Vaillant.

What Lies Beneath

This panel brings together four acclaimed authors who fashion compelling narratives from tough and controversial topics. Whether its Alberta’s dirty oil, Bountiful’s problematic polygamy, the Siberian tiger prowling post-communist Russia, or a 30-year unrequited love affair, each of these writers gets under the surface of their subject and unearths its essence, creating stories of gripping power and relevance.

Sunday, July 17, 11:30 am to 1:30 pm

Moderator Bill Richardson with authors Kate Braid, Wayde Compton, Paul Headrick, and Evelyn Lau.

Rhythm of Writing

A panel of four authors explores how music informs and influences their work. Whether embodying musical elements into their poetry, incorporating music into performances of their work, or borrowing from music to create structure, each writer has a unique connection to music and language.
