Manuscript Assessment Program
Manuscript Assessment Program
Denman Island Readers & Writers Festival
Instructor: Heather Burt
Class Limit: 10
Dates: Five one hour sessions per day are available on Friday, July 15th and Saturday, July 16th, 2011.
Where: T.B.A.
Fee: $125.
Get professional feedback on your fiction manuscript and explore possibilities for further development in a relaxed, individualized one-hour manuscript consultation with novelist/creative writing instructor Heather Burt. Each consultation will touch on the essentials of writing: narrative structure/tension, point of view, voice, character and scene. Participating writers will submit their manuscript prior to the festival. The one-hour festival consultation will then focus on discussing the manuscript’s key strengths and possibilities for improvement. Each participant will receive a page of point-form comments and suggestions from Heather. Please note that submissions must be works of fiction (short story, novel excerpt, or a detailed outline for a novel/novella). Poetry and non-fiction cannot be assessed in this particular program.
Participation in the program requires the following:
1.Advance registration. Spaces are limited to ten participants and can be secured only by full payment of fees. Spaces will be awarded on a first-come first-served basis. Registration opens March 1, 2011.
2.Advance submission of work to the Denman Island Readers and Writers Festival. Manuscripts (short story, novel excerpt, or novel outline) must be no longer than 3,000 words. Novel excerpts may be accompanied by a brief synopsis (maximum 300 words) of the entire work.
Work must be received by July 5th, 2011.
Detailed Submission Guidelines provided upon registration.
