Manuscript Assessment Program
Manuscript Assessment Program
Denman Island Readers & Writers Festival
Instructor: Charlotte Gill
Class Limit: 10
Dates: Five one hour sessions are available on Friday, July 16th and Saturday, July 17th, 2010.
Where: Denman Island Arts Centre
Fee: $125.
Take your writing for a test drive with a one-hour manuscript consultation--a one-on-one editorial clinic with an individualized, non-intimidating focus on a literary project of your choosing. Submissions can be short stories, novels-in-progress, or narrative non-fiction (such as essay, travel writing, or memoir). Other possibilities include outlines and writing plans, especially for writers with book-length manuscripts. Each session will touch on the essentials of writing: point of view, voice, structure, character and scene. Participating writers can expect to receive a page of editorial feedback to help them take their work beyond the session and on to the next level.
Participation in the program requires the following:
1.Advance registration. Spaces are limited to ten participants and can be secured only by full payment of fees. Spaces will be awarded on a first-come first-served basis. Registration opens January 15, 2010.
2.Advance submission of work to the Denman Island Readers and Writers Festival.
•Short Story and Narrative Non-Fiction: Submit up to 2,500 words, though longer submissions (up to 4,000 words) may be considered in order to include a story in its entirety.
•Novels and Book-Length Works: Submit an excerpt of up to 2,500 words. In addition, include a Table of Contents and/or a Chapter Outline with a summary of 100 words per chapter.
Work must be received by June 1, 2010.
