Philip Kevin Paul, who goes by Kevin, was most recently nominated for the Governor General’s award, for his second book, Little Hunger, and was awarded the BC book prize for his first book: Taking the Names Down from the Hill. He has contributed essays, poems and information historical to his homeland, WSANEC, since he started publishing at age eleven.
A former amateur boxer of significant rank, he has enjoyed being everything from a paperboy to a waiter, to an adult educator; to an instructor in the writing department at the University of Victoria. He also worked at UVic in the Linguistics Department to do his part in preserving his mother tongue.
He is a Saanich man and lives in Saanich (he’s lived at the same address and had the same phone number all his life). While his writing and philosophies often take him abroad, his heart is always singing to Saanich.
